Everything POPS and seems REALLY important. You may be thinking it makes it more dull/ plain, but in fact it does the opposite. Manga works with only black and white and this actually one of its many BIGGEST assets. One BIG difference between the anime and manga is that the anime feels consistent with no particularly strong/ low points, while the manga is consistently PAZAAAM! I went a bit behind where the anime episode was (When part of the crew were going to Green Bit) just to get used to it holy crap.

Just re-read chapters of episodes I already saw, and see the difference. But after getting fed up with the anime, I decided why not. It felt right with the voices I couldn't IMAGINE seeing those same scenes in just bland black and white.

I had watched the whole series in animation form, and I loved the first half. I was veeeery much on the fence about this. The manga and anime pretty much have many of the exact same scenes/ shots, but. Characters and their 'thinking' process how long they take to respond, how quickly they say dialog, what they say all these factors, if not done right, make the characters and situations feel retarded. I disliked the anime not only for those reasons, but for the sense of dread. (And then see NOTHING happen.)Įpic scenes of people outrunning a mountain of deadly gas turned into a borefest as it was elongated to the point of them awkwardly running and trying to squeeze as many jokes out as possible about the situation. And it was worsened with the fact that I had to wait a week between episodes to see anything happen. Running through hallways, terrible animation/ art, bad cinematography and nothing really popped out/ felt extreme. Everyone was always saying how amazing Dressrosa arc was, and I was extremely excited, because as an anime watcher Punk Hazard was just awful. I've watched the anime up till the start of Punk Hazard, and since then been watching it weekly. This is not an argument thread, this is just gonna be an explanation about my biases and how they were crushed.
